13 year-old Anja Beth Swoap incorrectly spelled the word “icteritious” Friday morning.
This was Anja Beth’s second consecutive year at the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., which began with 273 spellers. She’ll have another chance to compete next year. Anja Beth is a 7th grader at Valley View Middle School.
By the way, in case you wondered, “icteritious” is a Greek-Latin word for jaundiced or yellow.
