The Twin Cities law professor being held in Rwanda has admitted in court he attempted suicide while in jail.
At a court hearing Monday Peter Erlinder told the judge, “your honor, I lost all hope to live”. The Monday hearing was on his appeal for release on bail and a judge in Rwanda is expected to issue a ruling Thursday. Erlinder is being held on accusations he has denied that genocide occurred in Rwanda in 1994. The U-S Embassy in Rwanda is delivering meals to Erlinder in his prison cell. Pictures of the Twin Cities law professor from Monday’s court hearing showed his head has been shaved.
