Street closed, homes evacuated after discovery of what looked like a pipe bomb.
A disruption in an Oakdale neighborhood Thursday afternoon, after what looked like a pipe-bomb was discovered. A resident mowing the lawn spotted the suspicious device in the boulevard on Gentry Avenue. Oakdale Police responded, who then called the St. Paul Bomb Squad. Captain Jack Kettler with Oakdale Police says they had to shut down the street, and evacuate a few nearby homes for a period of time. He says it was likely a random placement of the device, and not directed at anyone specifically. No one was injured. Kettler says the pipe contained an unidentified white powder. He says they should find out from St. Paul Police within the next few days if it indeed was an explosive.
