Joe Mauer will be the lone representative for the Minnesota Twins in the All-Star game on Tuesday night. The game will be in Anaheim, Calif.
Mauer was the leading vote-getter for the summer classic. That compelled him to play in the game even though he is dealing with a sore shoulder that kept him out of the lineup on Sunday against Detroit.
Mauer is having a down year by his sky-high standards. He is hitting .293 with just three home runs and 35 RBIs. But the reigning AL MVP still has numbers much better than his backup, Kansas City’s John Buck.
Mauer was hoping to have buddy Justin Morneau with him this week in California. But Morneau is out with a concussion. He missed all three games against Detroit and wants to rest up for the second half of the season.
