Family members say the Mahnomen County deputy shot in the line of duty last year is now in hospice care.Deputy Chris Dewey was shot in the head and abdomen in February 2009 while investigating a suspected drunken driver. Doctors were amazed at his recovery. He was walking and talking and making progress at a Denver rehabilitation facility. But then Dewey suffered a series of setbacks, including a brain hemorrhage. He returned to Minnesota earlier this year.
His uncle, Eric Dewey, says recently his nephew suffered a collapsed lung, which put pressure on his heart.
Family and friends will hold a fundraiser for Dewey Aug. 28 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Cambridge.
