Kelliher Proposes Tax Break For Seniors
July 27, 2010 5:43 AM
DFL gubernatorial candidate Margaret Anderson Kelliher is proposing a seniors-only property tax break.
It’s all about the senior vote. The DFL primary is coming up August 10th and people 65 and older make up a significant number of those who vote in a primary election. Kelliher’s proposal would hold property tax increases for seniors to the rate of inflation. Currently that would be about 2 percent a year. Another DFL candidate, Mark Dayton, historically has been strong among older voters. Democrat Matt Entenza has spent four million dollars so far with about 3.6 million of that from his own pocket. On the Republican side, Tom Emmer has raised about 900 thousand dollars so far.
