The Guthrie Theater is opening a musical about an infamous 1930s case before it heads to Broadway.

“The Scottsboro Boys” is about nine young black men unfairly accused of raping two white women in Alabama in the ’30s. It plays a limited eight-week engagement at the Guthrie before moving to Broadway this fall.

Previews begin Saturday with the opening set for next Friday. The production ends its Guthrie run Sept. 25.
