Window Fall Injuries Soar

window fall girl Window Fall Injuries Soar

A toddler from northern Minnesota is part of an alarming trend in the state: A record number of children falling out of windows.

2-year-old Tayaunna Boyd of Onamia is being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center for a broken arm, fractured jaw and punctured lung.  She was hurt in a fall from a third-floor window at her father’s home in Crosby two weeks ago.  HCMC has treated 14 children for injuries from window falls so far this year.  That’s twice the number for all of last year.  The reason isn’t known, but this year’s warm weather may be a factor.

Parents are urged to install window guards and stops and to keep furniture away from windows to discourage children from climbing near them.
