1,300 nurses in Duluth today vote on whether to ratify a three-year contract with St Mary’s Medical Center and St Luke’s Hospital — or stage a one-day walkout. Their union – the Minnesota Nurses Association – is recommending that rank-and-file reject the contract because it does not include the union’s proposal for staffing. The staffing issue nearly prompted a prolonged strike by 12,000 nurses in the Twin Cities earlier this summer.
