State officials want 3M Co. to pay for possible damage caused by chemicals that leaked into Washington County groundwater decades ago.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says it’s negotiating with 3M over compensation. Agency officials say they hope to reach an agreement by the end of the year.
The chemicals involved are known as PFCs. Large doses can cause birth defects in mice, but their effects on humans, especially in small doses, aren’t known.
