Two men were killed when a small plane crashed in Wright County and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating. The Wright County sheriff’s office says deputies received the call about 12:40 p.m. Sunday and were led to swampy area in Clearwater Township. There, the pilot and passenger were found dead. The names were being withheld pending further investigation by deputies and the FAA.
However, Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Sandin says they were a 32-year-old pilot from Big Lake and his passenger, a 34-year-old man from Maple Lake. The passenger reportedly was going to be married next week and his bride-to-be may have witnessed the tragedy. The plane was said to be doing aerial tricks when it went down.
Sandin says it appears the two friends took the two-seater bi-plane out on a leisure flight. They took off from a grass airstrip in Clear Lake.
