A 38-year-old man has been charged after police say he was driving under the influence and crashed into a car of teenagers, injuring two of them.
Edward Thomas Jaworski has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation, one count of DWI and one count of driving after cancellation for the Sunday incident.
Police say Jaworski was driving eastbound on Valley Creek Road in Woodbury around 6:30 p.m., when he crashed into four vehicles that were stopped at a stop light. Police say Jaworski was going more than 80 mph when he slammed into the first vehicle, a Pontiac sedan, rear-ending the three teens inside.
The 17-year-old driver of the Pontiac sustained minor injuries and the 16-year-old front seat passenger was in and out of consciousness when paramedics arrived. That victim was transported to Regions Hospital.
The backseat passenger, 17, sustained traumatic facial injuries and is currently in a pediatric intensive care unit, according to the charges.
Jaworski was taken to Woodwinds Hospital for medical treatment and released on Aug. 24. He was immediately arrested and charged.
The charges said Jaworski was drinking at Acapulco Restaurant in Woodbury just before getting behind the wheel. Staff at the restaurant said they served him five margaritas between 3:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. before cutting him off.
Jaworski has four previous alcohol-related driver’s license revocations — including two within the last 10 years, on April 19, 2001 and Aug. 1.
Jaworski also has a pending DWI misdemeanor from Jun
