Lisa Harnack, Director of the University of Minnesota’s Nutrition Coordinating Center, looked at the most popular State Fair offerings and found the flowering onion with ranch dressing has the most calories: 980. The second-highest calorie food is the deep-fried cheese curd basket with 759 calories.
Since the average man needs 2,400 calories per day and the average woman needs 2,000 calories per day, Harnack advises people avoid these items or share them with a friend.
The lowest-calorie options among the State Fair favorites are the buttered corn on the cob at 179 calories and cotton candy at 323 calories.
