Hole caused by watermain break, which has forced closure of 6th and Wabasha in Downtown St. Paul A freak accident in downtown St. Paul this morning, where a man fell through a 15-foot sinkhole that had developed in the sidewalk. It happened near the corner of 6th and Wabasha. The man suffered a non-life threatening head injury. St. Paul Fire Crews say a water main break caused the sinkhole, and now crews are determining the extent of the damage underground. The intersection of 6th and Wabasha, one of the busiest downtown, is closed, and will be for several hours. Water has also been shutoff to the Ecolab Building.
