Big “green” news on the Iron Range where authorities have broken ground for a new solar panel manufacturing plant. The plant is part of Mountain Iron’s Renewable Energy Industrial Park.  Officials say the type of panel to be manufactured is suited for Minnesota’s tough weather conditions.   The Silicon Energy plant will start production early next year, with the goal of making Minnesota a leading solar panel producer in order to compete with off-shore importers. Most panels are now made in China.
