Chad, I feel you sadness re “Don’t Tell . . . ” There are gays … throughout our human race. So long as some of us pass judgement on others of us prejudice is alive and not well but sick. Prejudice drives a segment of us into a life of chronic deceit as a matter of self-defence. A society based on prejudice cannot stand forever. This is an illness that pervades churches, biblical misinterpretation, neighborhoods, societies, and nations. We need to encourage equality by persisting in ways that educate, accept, tolerate, and recognizing each other as human beings blessed with a variety of gifts and qualities that help to make us whole. I’ve been in the military. I’m not gay but knew men who were, men who served honorably and ably. The role of women in the military, while not always smooth, is better than it was. Gays & lesbians, while lagging behind, have fully as much to gain and for which to hope.
