After meeting with legislative leaders this morning, Governor Pawlenty announced plans for a special session to provide flood relief for southern Minnesota.
A date has not been set, but the governor told reporters the special legislative session would occur in early October and would not last more than one day. The announcement comes one day after Governor Pawlenty visited the flood-stricken communities of Zumbro Falls and Hammond in Wabasha County. The majority of homes in those communities were destroyed by flooding caused by last week’s torrential rain. Up to 10 inches of rain fell on the region last Thursday, flooding basements and roads, overtaking sewer systems and overflowing rivers and creeks.
