Boulder will Mark Spot Where Officer was Killed

Maplewood Sgt. Joe Bergeron fatally shot in squad car on May 1st

Law officers and community members will gather Tuesday as a granite boulder is moved to the site where a Maplewood police officer was killed in the line of duty.

The boulder will memorialize Sgt. Joe Bergeron, who was shot to death while sitting in his squad car May 1.

Law officers will escort a semi-truck carrying the boulder from Oakdale to the site of Bergeron’s death in St. Paul.

An inscription honoring Bergeron will later be sandblasted into the rock.

Bergeron was responding to a car-jacking when he was ambushed and killed. The alleged shooter was killed after attacking another police officer later that day.

Thank you so much for covering this. My husband was one of Joe’s brothers and it is nice to hear that they are trying to keep his memory alive with memorials such as this.

Thank you so much for covering this. It is so nice to hear that people are still trying to keep Joe’s memory alive. My husband is one of Joe’s brothers and we enjoy hearing about these memorials.
