Several vehicles involved in crash on I-94 near Clearwater
The State Patrol is investigating an accident on Interstate 94 that killed two people and injured seven others — two of them critically. A 78 year-old man and 61 year-old woman, both from Illinois, were killed last night when their car was rammed from behind by a semi on Interstate 94 near Clearwater. A second woman in that car was critically injured. And a 22 year-old man in another vehicle also was critically hurt. In all, seven people in four vehicles were injured after the car-hauling semi rammed the first car. Investigators say it happened when that first car slowed down as it passed a burning vehicle in the westbound lanes of I-94 shortly after 7:30 last night. The crash forced the closing of the freeway for several hours. The driver of the semi, a 56-year old Iowa man, was not injured. The investigation will focus on why he failed to slow down for the traffic back-up.
