Maturi Wants Experienced Head Coach

Joel Maturi says he’d like to hire a person with head coaching experience to take over the Gopher football programThe U of M athletic director spoke with WCCO’s Dave Lee this morning, one day after firing Coach Tim Brewster.

Brewster, who did not have head coaching experience when he came to Minnesota, was let go after a 1 and 6 start to the current season.

Offensive Coordinator Jeff Horton will serve as the interim coach for the rest of this season.

ummmmm….. stating the obvious at this time? Open the checkbook, quit messing around, and get a real coach that you can KEEP. This has gone on for 30 + years, time to get with the program.

Unless you are going to go out and spend big bucks for a big name coach, how about Bob Nielson. The UMD head coach has been very successful with the Bulldogs, including the Division Two National Championship two years ago. I don’t believe there has been a more successful head coach in all of college football over the past few seasons. Check out his coaching record and you will be pleasantly surprised.
If you don’t like the idea of Nielson, then pay Craig Peterson whatever it takes to lure him away from Boise State.
