Minnesota Jobless Rate Holds Steady In September

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Minnesota's unemployment rate didn't budge from 7 percent last month as employers cut almost 10,000 jobs.

Figures released Thursday by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development showed that the state lost 9,900 jobs in September, driven by cuts in professional and business services, government work and the hospitality industry.

Commissioner Dan McElroy says the numbers show that the economic recovery is uneven.

He says jobs were added in construction, transportation and manufacturing.

Minnesota's job market is still doing significantly better than the nation's. The national unemployment rate stood unchanged at 9.6 percent last month.
