Music For Healing After Triple Murder

By Telly Mamayek, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

The classmates of a Vadnais Heights boy who was murdered last month with his mother and sister will get a special gift. More than 60 seventh graders and classmates of Kinley Ogendi will be guests of Christian music artist TobyMac at his concert at Target Center on Saturday night.

"It's very important for the community to remember this family and remember how these three people lived their lives," said Vadnais Heights Mayor Susan Banovetz.

Banovetz says TobyMac was 12-year-old Kinley's favorite musician. She calls TobyMac's music a fitting tribute that will help the children heal.

"It is about love, healing, hope and generosity," said Banovetz.

Banovetz can't attend the concert because she'll be in New Jersey for the victims' funerals on Sunday.

Kinley, his 32-year-old mother Bilha Omera and his 9-year-old sister Ivyn Ogendi were murdered in their Vadnais Heights apartment on Oct. 14 by his father, 43-year-old Justus Kebabe. Kebabe pleaded guilty to the killings at the end of October.

A fund has been set up for the lone surviving child of the tragedy, a 4-year-old girl. Donations can be sent to the Bilha Omare and Children Fund, Bremer Bank, 4600 White Bear Parkway, White Bear Lake, MN 55110.
