Rifle, Body Armor Stolen From Agent's Car In Minn.

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) -- Stillwater police say thieves broke into the unmarked vehicle of a federal officer and stole his rifle and ballistic vest.

Police Sgt. Jeff Stender says the vehicle was one of several that were broken into while parked at a Stillwater home late Friday.

Stender says a few other items were also missing, but officers are more concerned "that someone has a rifle and body armor out there."

The .223 rifle was in a locked and mounted rack. Stender says it's ironic that the thieves were able to take the rack even though they tried and failed to steal the stereo.

Stender tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press there were no signs of forced entry but the agent "is positive" he locked the vehicle.

Investigators say they have some leads but are hoping tipsters can help.
