BRAINERD (WCCO) — A community leader in northern Minnesota says he’s sorry for the damage his addiction to Internet porn has caused.

Steven Augustinack is charged with having nearly 30 child porn videos on his home computer — along with thousands of other porn videos.

Just last month, The Brainerd Jaycees named Augustinack their “Citizen of the Year.”

However, after the charges were filed, he told the Brainerd Dispatch he won’t accept the award.

In a statement, Augustinack said he’s now in counseling.

“I have been working hard to gain a deeper understanding of what factors led up to my problems. It is amazing what a grip an addiction can place on one’s life,” he said.

“[Augustinack] is sorry for the damage his addiction to Internet porn has caused.” Instead of taking personal responsibility for his actions, Augustinack blames an addiction.

Child pornography is child abuse. Period.

And if Augustinack’s defense reminds you of Tiger Woods’ claim of sex addiction; you should know that child abuse is never about sex, it’s about power.

I’m not trying to defend this guy but he had 75,000 internet porn images on his computers and 28 of them were child porn. That is less than 1%. If he was using file sharing software they probably came along with other stuff. If he was into child porn there would have been tons more.

I would say he has a serious addiction to internet porn that spun out of control. Child abuser – I doubt it.
