Lawyers: Williams Wall 'Never Used Steroids'

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Lawyers for Pat and Kevin Williams took their appeal of a four game suspension to the Minnesota Court of Appeals Wednesday.

The players are appealing a Hennepin County judge's decision last May that the NFL violated their rights under Minnesota labor law but that the league could still suspend them.

The two defensive linemen tested positive for a banned substance in the summer of 2008.

The players say the NFL knew the banned substance was in the energy drink Starcaps, but never told the players.

"These guys deserve to keep playing football," said lawyer Peter Ginsberg. "They never used steroids. They have never done anything that should have been found in violation of the NFL policy."

The Minnesota Court of Appeals has 90 days to make a ruling.
