Police: 2 Teens Shot While Attempting To Rob Bar

By Bill Hudson, WCCO-TV

HAYWARD (WCCO) -- Two teens from Wisconsin are in the hospital after they were shot during a robbery attempt at a bar Tuesday.

Around 5:30 a.m., the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman at the Countryside Bar in Bass Lake who said there was a break-in, shots had been fired and there was one person lying on the ground moaning.

About 10 minutes later, the sheriff's office received a call from another woman at a residence near the bar who said her son had been shot and that the incident was "gang related."

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office determined the two shootings were related and both happened at the Countryside Bar.

Authorities say two teenagers, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old, were looking to steal cash and alcohol at the bar. The bar owner, who lives at the bar, confronted the teens and shot them.

Both teens were transported to a local hospital. One suspect was shot in the hand and neck, and is listed in critical condition. The other was shot in the ankle and groin area, and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office said the case is still under investigation and charges are expected. The owner of the bar has not been arrested.
