WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man who eluded authorities for 10 years after being accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl has agreed to plead guilty and face deportation from the U.S.

Forty-one-year-old Tomas Hernandez Lopez signed the plea deal Monday in Kandiyohi County District Court. He could have faced 10 years in prison if he was convicted of assaulting the girl in 2000. Court records say Lopez was living with the girl’s family and sexually assaulted her more than once. A warrant was issued for his arrest, but he remained at large until authorities caught up with him in September.

The West Central Tribune says Lopez will be turned over to the federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.

And we don’t have a problem with illegals here in Minnesota?

  2. Tom says:

No we don’t, we have a problem with employers that hire them for cheap labor and a system that refuses to go after them with any real vigor. This guy eluded for 10 years? in a burg like Willmar and nobody noticed him? Whose SS# was he using?
Oh Well! Don’t get me started lol

Well said sir, I defer to you

  3. paab says:

Deportation? he will just come back across the boarder and assault again. what a judicial system we have. they don’t want to put him in prison as he would add to the count of illegals that have committed crimes on this soil and that would be politically explosive.

  4. Scott says:

A “Minnesota Man”? Call him what he is, a Illegal Alien! Also, they shouldn’t deport him until he serves his time.

  5. John says:

Illegal Immigration: A victimless crime – If I have to hear that one more time!!!!! I think we should do with him what Mexico would do to a Us citizen doing a far less serious crime in their country – Lock him up and throw away the key.

  6. Bruiser says:

It cost $$$$$$$ to lock him up.

Ship him off … and they sure as he!! couldn’t have really looked to hard now could they. Unreal all around

  7. tommy says:

Come on! Shouldn’t he do the time first before releasing him back to Mexico which he probably would’ve gone to anyways if he had money? That’s not punishment!
