Uncertainty About This Winter's Flu Season

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Experts say it's hard to predict what the flu season will be like this winter. So far, only sporadic cases of influenza have shown up in Minnesota and elsewhere around the nation.

"Experts have determined there's going to be mainly two or three strains this year," said Dr. David Hilden of Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

This year's vaccine covers three strains including last year's H1N1 and a strain called H3N2, plus another seasonal flu.

"It's important to get your vaccine and, in fact, it's probably more important in times like this when we're not sure what's going to happen this year," said Dr. Hilden.

He said nearly everyone six months and older should have the vaccine.
