Minnesota GOP Chair Hints At Post-Recount Lawsuit

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The head of Minnesota's Republican Party is making his boldest statements yet about a potential court case that could follow a statewide recount in the governor's race.

GOP Chairman Tony Sutton said Tuesday he's not surprised that the recount hasn't produced significant gains for Republican Tom Emmer so far.

Sutton says "there's definitely some issues that merit review" in a possible legal challenge known as an election contest, while also emphasizing that Emmer has the final call.

Sutton says the issues include matching the number of votes and voters and a procedure known as vouching, where a registered voter can attest to the residency of an unregistered voter.

Emmer trailed Democrat Mark Dayton by more than 8,700 votes as the recount started Monday.
