Red Wing Student Hit By Truck Recovering

By Esme Murphy, WCCO-TV

RED WING (WCCO) -- An 18-year-old Red Wing High School student is recovering after being hit by a truck on his way to school Wednesday.

The accident happened at a very busy intersection of Highway 58 and Pioneer Road, which is about a third of a mile from the high school.

The state patrol says Allyn Deobald was crossing the highway when the light was red. Michael Conroy of Red Wing had a green light as he was going northbound on the highway when he hit Deobold in the intersection.

The state patrol says Conroy, who was driving a Ford pickup, was not speeding.

The family, through a hospital spokesperson, made a statement.

"They feel no ill will toward the driver in fact they believe his immediate actions contributed to saving their sons life," said Jane Gisslen R.N., the Director of Emergency Services at Fairview Hospital in Red Wing.

Deobald is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

He is able to talk and walk with help. After rehabilitation, he is expected to recover from his injuries.
