More Snowfall Overnight For Much Of Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The snowstorm that reached Minnesota Friday afternoon is expected to taper off Saturday morning, according to WCCO-TV Meteorologist Mike Fairbourne.

He said the heaviest snow is expected to fall in southwestern Minnesota, which could see 8 inches. There is a winter weather advisory there and in west central Minnesota until midnight Saturday morning. West central Minnesota also has a winter storm warning until that time.

The Twin Cities should get between 3 and 5 inches of snow, with more to the southwest and less to the northeast.

The Twin Cities are included in a winter storm warning along with central and south central Minnesota, reaching into far west central Wisconsin. That warning is scheduled to expire at 6 a.m. Saturday.

At Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, incoming flights are being delayed nearly 2 hours, while outbound flights are running between 90 minutes and 2 hours behind.

In southeastern Minnesota, there is a winter storm winter storm watch in effect through Saturday afternoon and a winter storm warning until 6 p.m.

As far north as the territory between Moorhead and Hinckley, there is a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Saturday. Fairbourne said that region could get an inch of snow or less, and the light snow may reach its way north to Duluth early Saturday morning.

He expects most of the snow across the state to taper off by 3 a.m.

For those who do have to shovel their driveways Saturday morning, Fairbourne says the snow is fluffier and will be easier to move. He expects some flurries on and off into Saturday, as well as colder temperatures as the tail end of the storm system leaves.

He's forecasting a high of 25 Saturday, then temperatures in the teens until Friday. Overnight lows should hover around 0, and the Twin Cities may get their first sub-zero night of the season.
