Minnesotans Prepare For Old Friend, Snow

By John Lauritsen, WCCO-TV

OSSEO (WCCO) -- It's beginning to look a lot like winter and that means everyone, from snowmobilers to sledders, is ready to take advantage.

Paul Heinen sells snowmobiles for a living at Heinen's of Osseo. So, the slightest hint that snow is coming means his business gets busy and everything else gets put on hold.

"We are just happy to see that. I didn't even have time to shave," he said.

Whether you are a grown up or a kid, we are mostly all excited about the snow. The real difference-maker is the size of the toys.

And the toys at Heinen's, small and large, have been selling fast as grown-ups and kids can't seem to wait.

"You just want it to come right now it's not that good, and you just want good snow, deep snow, to be able to snowmobile," said snowmobiler Tyler Hillukka.

That meant that Todd Tadsen, of Todd's Lawn Service of Savage, needed to get his plow ready.

"I just bought this '08 truck about two weeks ago," he said. "Just purchased the plow for it."

By summer, Tadsen runs a lawncare service, and by winter, he plows. So, he relies on Mother Nature to make money. And, as an avid snowmobiler himself, fresh snow is a welcome sight.

"It's kind of a double whammy," he said. "I kind of like to think of it as gold from the heavens. It's a beautiful thing."
