ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Logan Flannery ran for 200 yards and a touchdown Saturday as Bethel defeated St. Thomas of Minnesota 12-7 in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
Bethel (12-1) avenged a 10-6 loss earlier this season to its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals and advanced to a semifinal meeting with Mount Union next Saturday.
Flannery, who became Bethel’s career rushing leader on Saturday, scored from a yard out with 2:12 left in the second quarter to make the score 7-6. Bethel was unsuccessful on its extra point try, so St. Thomas remained ahead at the half behind Colin Tobin’s 2-yard scoring run in the first quarter.
Quarterback Josh Aakre, who only attempted four passes in the game, scored on a 1-yard run for the Royals with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter for the winning points.
Tobin finished with 122 yards for the Tommies (12-1).
