Minn. St., Mankato Beats Minnesota 2-1

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -- Sophomore goalie Phil Cook made 49 saves and Kurt Davis scored the game-winning goal in the third period as Minnesota State, Mankato beat Minnesota 2-1 on Saturday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Cook turned away 22 shots in the third period, helping the Mavericks (6-6-4, 4-6-2) earn their first home sweep of the Golden Gophers (8-7-1, 5-6-1).
MSUM won the series opener 3-2 behind Cook's 33 saves on Friday.

Rylan Galiardi gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead on the power play at 19:11 of the second period.

Davis' goal at 8:59 of the third allowed MSUM to withstand Cade Fairchild's goal at 9:38 of the third for the Gophers.

Kent Patterson made 30 saves for Minnesota, which was 0-for-6 on the power play.
