MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Adam Mueller scored the game-winning goal early in the second period Friday and Minnesota State, Mankato held off Minnesota 3-2.

Phil Cook stopped 11 of 33 Golden Gophers shots in the third period for the Mavericks (5-6-4, 3-6-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association). Minnesota goalie Alex Kangas made 21 saves.

MSUM’s Ben Youds and Michael Dorr scored around Minnesota’s Nick Bjugstad in the first period, giving the Mavericks a 2-1 lead. Mueller scored with an assist from Corey Leivermann at 6:29 of the second period. The goal was important as Nick Larson scored for Minnesota at 14:45 of the second.

But it was all goalies from there.
