Record Store Robbed Twice In 4 Days

By Holly Wagner, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's starting to sound like a broken record for one music store owner in south Minneapolis.

Know Name Records, a music shop on Portland Avenue, was hit twice in four days. In both cases, a man walked in, pointed a gun and took off with cash.

The owner, Bruce Benson, believes the same guy is responsible for both robberies.

The crimes took place during business hours, when customers were inside the store shopping. Benson said only the clerk knew what was happening.

"Nobody sees it. He's very stealthy about the way he points the gun," said Benson. "He's just real quiet, gets out the door without anybody knowing."

Surveillance video shows the man standing at the counter near the clerk with a gun in his right hand. During one robbery, he was wearing a blue ball cape with a stocking cap over it. In another video, he's wearing an orange ball cap. The robber made no attempt to hide his face.

Benson hopes someone recognizes him and calls police.

"To come back three days later -- take two days off, come back -- that's crazy! I'm just glad he hasn't shot anybody. He could have shot somebody. He's obviously some kind of moron," said Benson.

In the 33 years Know Name Records has been open, Benson said the store has never had any problems until now.

Police believe the robber may be responsible for two other crimes, one in Edina and another in South St. Paul. Police say in one of the other robberies, the suspect was wearing a similar hat.
