Attorney: Rep. Hackbath Won't Be Charged With Crimes

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A Minnesota State Representative who was detained with a gun after parking at a Planned Parenthood clinic will not be charged with any crimes, according to the St. Paul City Attorney Sara Grewing.

St. Paul Police said there were inconsistencies in the story they got from Rep. Tom Hackbarth after he parked in the clinic parking lot wearing a fully-armed pistol.

Security tapes show Hackbarth getting out of his truck with the gun clearly visible. He told police he was jealous and looking for his online girlfriend that he was dating.

Grewing told WCCO-TV that he was "less than clear with police about what he was doing there," but she said her office couldn't find evidence of a crime they could prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

Hackbarth voluntarily resigned from his post as the chairman of the powerful Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committeee.
