University Of Minnesota VP Himle Resigns

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The University of Minnesota vice president who was criticized for cancelling a broadcast of the university-produced documentary "Troubled Waters" has resigned.

President Robert Bruininks announced Karen Himle's resignation Friday at the Board of Regents meeting, according to the university news service.

Himle tells the Star Tribune her resignation has nothing to do with the documentary about the Mississippi River. She says that when she took the job four years ago, she had planned to serve with Bruininks, then return to the private sector. Bruininks is stepping down next summer and Eric Kaler has been appointed as the school's new president.

In September, Himle canceled the documentary's broadcast, but after public criticism and accusations of censorship, the university reversed the decision. Himle later apologized.
