Vikings-Giants Tix A Hot Item In Cold Detroit

By Adam Carter, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It took a little more than two hours to give away free tickets to tonight's game in Detroit. The Detroit Lions have stopped distributing free tickets to Monday night's football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants.

The Lions gave away 30,000 tickets for the game, which was moved to Ford Field after the roof of the Metrodome collapsed Sunday morning.

Fans lined up for the tickets at the Ford Field ticket office beginning at midnight. The office opened at 8 a.m., and the tickets were gone shortly after 10 a.m.

"It's like a once in a lifetime thing for the NFL," said Jeff Jones, who drove to Detroit from Toledo, Ohio to get a free ticket. "It's just great, especially in this economy."

Vikings fans who had tickets to the originally scheduled game at the Metrodome will still get a premium seat for the game at Ford Field if they choose to get to Detroit by the 6:20 p.m. kickoff.

Ford Field holds 64,500 people.
