Minneapolis Declares Snow Emergency ... Again

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The City of Minneapolis declared a second consecutive snow emergency to give crews more time to clear the 17 inches of snow that fell over the city over the weekend.

The city announced the snow emergency, saying that while crews managed to get to 95 percent of streets and 100 percent of alleys, more work still needed to be done to make the streets safe and drivable.

Monday marked the final day of the first snow emergency declared in Minneapolis following Saturday's massive snowstorm. On day three, cars are banned from parking on the odd side of residential streets.

Complicating matters were the number of cars that were stuck in the snow and couldn't move for plows. The city said that it had waived tow fees for those affected during the first snow emergency, but warned that towing fees would not be waived for the second one.

The city expected to have 65 plows clearing the streets on Monday, with drivers working in 12-hour shifts.

"Hopefully by working together and with some patience we can dig our way out of this, but it's going to take awhile. This one's extraordinary," said Kennedy.

Here are the snow emergency parking rules for the next few days in Minneapolis:

Dec. 13, 9 p.m. to Dec. 14, 8 a.m. -- Do not park on EITHER side of a Snow Emergency route until the street is fully plowed.
Dec. 14, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. -- Do not park on the EVEN side of a non-Snow Emergency route, or on EITHER side of a parkway until the street is fully plowed.
Dec. 15, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. -- Do not park on the ODD side of a non-Snow Emergency route until the street is fully plowed.
