Mpls., St. Paul Declare Snow Emergencies

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Do you get the impression more days in December have been snow emergency days than not?

Even if that's not the case, the balance is going to shift a tad closer in that direction, as both Minneapolis and St. Paul have now declared snow emergencies over Monday's fresh batch of snowflakes.

Minneapolis's snow emergency -- the fifth so far this season -- goes into effect at 9 p.m. Monday. Starting at 4 p.m. Monday, the winter parking restrictions Minneapolis just put into place last week will be temporarily lifted. You can park on either side of non-snow emergency streets overnight.

But starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, normal parking restrictions in Minneapolis apply. Then, beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday, the parking restrictions go back into place. Parking on the even side of non-snow emergency routes will be prohibited.

Minneapolis authorities also wanted to impress upon Vikings fans gathering at the University of Minnesota Monday night that they should pay close attention to the parking rules during the Vikings-Bears game. There are many roads around TCF Bank Stadium that are restricted during snow emergencies. Said their press release, "All vehicles parked in violation of the Snow Emergency parking rules are subject to a ticket and tow."

St. Paul's emergency begins to begin at 9 p.m. Monday, meaning all night plow routes will be plowed. Streets with signs that say "Night Plow Route" or "Night Plow Route-This Side Of Street" will be plowed. For more information, visit St. Paul's website.
