Salvation Army Bell Ringer To Ring For 30 Hours, $30K

HUDSON, Wis. (WCCO) -- A woman in Hudson, Wis. is on a bell ringing marathon to raise money for the Salvation Army.

Helen McCombie is ringing for 30 straight hours outside the County Market. Her goal is to raise $30,000 before 11 p.m. Tuesday. If she falls short, she'll stay for as long as it takes.

McCombie said the Salvation Army once helped her out and she didn't even know it.

"That was years ago and I wasn't even aware of that story until much later. I didn't realize it was the Salvation Army, but we had a flat tire on the way to Michigan and they paid for our tire so we could keep going," she explained.

It is the fifth year McCombie has held her own bell ringing marathon. Last year, she met her fundraising goal.
