Mom Charged With Assault, Driving Drunk With Kids
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A West St. Paul mom has been charged with domestic assault, interfering with a 911 call and driving drunk with her kids in her car.
Police said on the night of Dec. 13, a man called 911 to report a domestic assault happening at a home in Empire Township. He said he was on the phone with his ex-girlfriend, Jolene Mae Oldenburg, when he heard screaming in the background.
While on the way over to the home, police received another call from Oldenburg's mother saying that she was assaulted by Oldenburg, 29, and that she took off with her 2 children in the vehicle and was driving drunk.
Oldenburg's mother said that her daughter had destroyed all the phones in the home so that she couldn't call 911.
Police found out after talking with Oldenburg's mom that Oldenburg was drunk and yelling for her kids to go to sleep and her mom told her to stop yelling at them. That's when Oldenburg turned her anger on her mom, calling her names, pushing her to the ground and slapping her on the face.
She said she told her daughter that she was going to call 911, so Oldenburg took the batteries out of 3 phones, packed her kids up in the car and drove away with a half liter of vodka.
Oldenburg's mother had to run to a neighbor's house to call 911.
Eventually Oldenburg had returned to the apartment with her kids. Officer arrived to arrest her and found the vodka sitting in the rear passenger seat, where the two children would have sat with no booster seats.
The children's father was called to pick them up so they could talk with Oldenburg alone.
Police could smell alcohol on her breath and said that she appeared to be under the influence.
She denied the incident at first, but later admitted driving drunk with the kids in the vehicle because she wanted to leave the scene because she said she was scared of her mother.
She took an intoxilyzer test at 2:16 a.m. on Dec. 14, and blew a 0.09.
According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, she remains in custody.
