MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — ‘Shop ’til you drop’ is no longer a slogan. Toys R Us and Macy’s is now open 24 hours a day until Christmas Eve.
“I think with Christmas falling on a Saturday, it’s giving customers one less day to shop,” said Cole Ludwig, Macy’s manager. “So the reality is setting in that there’s not much time left.”
The Macy’s at Rosedale Mall is one of a dozen stores nationwide taking part in the shopping frenzy. They’re running an 83-hour shopping marathon. This is the first time Toys R Us will be participating.
The stores are catering to last minute shoppers working odd hours and those looking to avoid big crowds. Ludwig said one area of the store that’s popular with male shoppers in the wee hours of the night, is the jewelry department.
“Yes, we do see a lot of gentleman here in the last few hours leading up to Christmas Eve,” said Ludwig.
The Toys R Us in Bloomington will close at 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve and Macy’s in Rosedale will close at 6 p.m.
Ludwig expects to see more and more shoppers taking advantage of the hours as we get close to Christmas.
“Definitely, it’s going to be overnight on the 23rd into the 24th when we anticipate seeing good traffic in the store,” said Ludwig.
