Man Arrested, Charged In St. Paul Car Theft, Kidnapping

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection to last week's car theft and abandonment of an 11-month-old boy who was in the backseat of the car, St. Paul Police announced Thursday.

Police say tips from community members lead to the arrest of Brandon Houge without incident at a business on the 600 block of 7th Street East at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

He has been charged with one count each of kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle in the Dec. 22 incident where a car with the infant inside was stolen from a residence in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue E. at 8:27 p.m.

After his arrest, police say Houge provided investigators with information that leads them to believe he stole the car and then left the baby by a garbage can near a Maplewood apartment complex. Investigators believe he was alone.

Houge will make a first appearance on Jan. 3, 2011 in the Ramsey County District Court.
