Sleet, Drunk Drivers Could Make For Bad Night On Roads
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says the snow and sleet coupled with party-goers could make for a bad night on Minnesota roads.
"Alcohol is one factor, and weather is another when you combine the two it can create a bad situation so if we can eliminate the alcohol side of it, then we just have the weather to deal with," said Lt. Eric Roeske.
The state patrol has increased its DWI patrols across Minnesota for the holiday.
Friday's enforcement is part of the patrol's month-long Safe and Sober campaign.
Roeske says troopers are going to be aggressively targeting drunken drivers.
"A lot of times when we arrest people, it's the folks who drink more than they're planning on. Obviously alcohol impairs judgment and causes people to make bad decisions, so plan ahead so you can have a good time," he said.
Roeske said either designate a driver or plan for another way home. He also said troopers will be ready to help out any drivers having trouble in the weather.
