CHICAGO (AP) — Rylan Galiardi had a goal and an assist and Minnesota State, Mankato goalie Phil Cook made 34 saves as the Mavericks beat host team Notre Dame 4-3 Saturday in the first round of the Shillelagh men’s college hockey tournament.

Michael Dorr scored the game-winning goal with 23 seconds left as the Mavericks (7-8-4) handed the Fighting Irish (12-7-2) their first loss in the tournament. The Irish had won each of the first two tournament titles.

Cameron Cooper and Evan Mosey gave MSUM a 2-0 first-period lead.

But the Irish responded with goals by Ben Ryan, Jeff Costello and Calle Ridderwall.

Galiardi tied it a 19:07 of the second period.

Mike Johnson had 23 saves for Notre Dame, which outshot the Mavericks 37-27.
