Staff Sergeant Marcus Kuboy joined the Minnesota National Guard in 2005. After spending his summer in Texas getting trained to become an infantry medic, he was assigned to a unit based out of Detroit Lakes for an eighteen month tour in Iraq.
In March of 2007, Marcus was injured when a roadside bomb hit the humvee that he was riding in. He woke up in Langstuhl, Germany with multiple fractures in both of his feet. Both of his lower legs were broken, along with his lower back, left arm and jaw.
Staff Sergeant Kuboy then spent 10 months at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC before coming home to the twin cities to spend an additional 6 month at the Minneapolis VA.
Today he lives an independent life that consists of volunteering and going to school full time in pursuit of a physical therapy degree.
