MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WCCO) — A young man who grew up in Minnesota has been killed in a hit-and-run crash in Florida.
Robert Wissler, 25, had just been home to Minnesota for Christmas. He grew up in Isanti and St. Francis, north of the Twin Cities. In Florida, he worked at Mount Sinai Medical Center on Miami Beach.
Early Sunday in Miami, a speeding van slammed into the Honda Civic he was driving. Two young women in his car also died.
Dean Wissler is Robert Wissler’s father.
“Great kid. He had no record, no nothing. He was nice to people,” he said. “He loved life. He was a Christian. He went to church every Sunday. I didn’t even go to church and he did.”
“My son was my best friend, and somebody better do something about this hit and run crap around here,” he continued.
Police caught the hit-and-run driver. He was driving without a license and had been drinking. Wissler’s family is planning a funeral in Minnesota for Friday or Saturday.
