Minn. Native Is No. 2 At State Dept.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota native has been sworn in as the number two person at the U.S. State Department.

Thomas Nides is a 1979 graduate of Duluth East High School. Nides is deputy U.S. secretary of state for management and resources. He left a $3 million-a-year job as chief operating officer at Morgan Stanley on Wall Street to take the Washington post.

The Duluth News Tribune says the 49-year-old Nides replaces Jacob Lew, who was tapped to run the White House Office of Management and Budget.
